What Made Your Christmas Special This Year?

Today we’re going to break from the usual discussions of building our blogs and growing our online presences and we’re going to talk about Christmas.

I want to know what you did for Christmas this year.  What made this year special for you? What was your favorite gift that you received? What was your most heart-felt gift that you gave this year?

As an Infantry soldier in the United States Army, this is the first year that I’ve been able to come home and see my parents and siblings at Christmas time since 2006.  I’ve missed spending Christmas at home and I’m excited to be here until January 2.

I’ll also be getting back on here at the end of the day to share some more details about my Christmas.  I’ll let everyone know all about it.

Now it’s your turn. Tell me about your Christmas.

We had a nice Christmas so far, but it is still ongoing. We opened gifts with our 6 kids last night on Christmas Eve.

It was fun giving our son his first cell phone. The boys are running around the house shooting nerf bullets at everything and anybody.

I enjoyed receiving my first iPod. Several others have them, but I finally got my own. I am looking forward to putting some movies on it.

Overall, we had a nice time. It was the first time in about 3 weeks everyone could just sit down and relax since we are usually incredibly busy.

Glad you could see your family. Thanks for your service and sacrifice. May God bless those who are unable to be with family and keep them safe until they return.

    Hi Nicholas.

I’m not celebrating Christmas but it is great to see others enjoying it. Hood to know that you can at last celebrate Christmas with your family.

However, I’m going back soon to my home country – Malaysia from Ireland. Really miss the food and environment.

    Cheers!

I had a great christmas myself and after a very long time we actually celebrated christmas with our family. We all received presents and cooked a very nice turkey.

Of course the fun part was seeing that everyone had a great time.

Hope everyone had a great christmas.

One of my favorite things about Christmas this year was the fact that we didn’t put such a focus on the gifts and how many there were. We just enjoyed the day as a family, in addition to that we donated over 630lbs of food to a local organization to feed families in need, that felt great.

Merry Christmas Nick, I hope you had a great day.

Just the usual Christmas here. Running around buying last minute gifts, swearing it will be different next year.

    It all worked out.

…and I still think it will be different next year.

Same old thing. Running around last minute picking out gifts. Promising next year will be different.

It all worked out in the end. One more Xmas in the books.

I really do think next year will be different.

    Hi Nick,

Just had a chance to look at your blog. Our Christmas was much different this year. We celebrated with our kids and their families on Dec. 10 as that was the only time that was going to work for all of us. It was fun we got some family pictures and watching the grandkids open their gifts is always fun to see the expressions on their faces.

Christmas Day we were snowed in because of the blizzard. Beings we could not get out or anyone get to us as we live in Nebraska and out away from the towns I decided to make it special just for the 2 of us since it had been the first time in 40 yrs. that we have had Christmas by ourselves. I made a special Christmas Dinner and then proceeded to get the Christmas tablecloth and candles out. As I was doing that my husband said “who’s coming to dinner?” I laughed and said “whoever braves the blizzard I guess.”

As we sat down to eat. Mind you we had the candles lit. The electricity decided to shut down. I said, “well finally we get to eat by candle light”, my husband doesn’t like to do that.

We had chosen not to buy each other anything, but we sure enjoyed our first Christmas alone. We played games & read and visited with friends on the phone that were also snowed in.

It was certainly a Christmas to remember.

Thanks Nick for this chance to share,

    Renita Farrall

It sounds to me like you had a great time and I’m glad to hear that. It’s great when something bad like a blizzard can turn into something good like an opportunity to spend time with your special someone.
