The Top 5 Online Places I Go To Get Motivated
Commanding Influence: Build A Strong Online PresenceOur host today is Keith Bloemendaal. If you're interested in getting in front of the readers of Site Sketch 101, check out our guest posting invitation here.
In this weeks video, I talk about motivation, and where I find it online. I get motivation from other places in my life too, but since I am on my computer most of the time, I try to get motivation from it sometimes.
Blogger Beats:
Blogger Beats is a membership site that offers 2 weekly podcasts with motivational speaking from Nathan Hangen, and music from Oleg Mokhov. I watch for the emails because I really enjoy their audio posts. The music is uplifting, upbeat electronic mixes that usually pick me up and help me get going. Yes, it costs $9 per month, but there is a 7 day free trial where you can get in and check out all the previous posts they have.
Nicholas Cardot:
Nick is a good friend, and a business partner with me, and his personal blog is very motivational. If you haven’t had time to look at it, please do so. You won’t regret it!
Bloggers Lounge:
The Bloggers Lounge is a Skype chatroom that Nick started over 6mos ago. I have been in it about 6mos, and I use it daily for motivation, inspiration, to help others, and get help myself.
Note From Nick: I’ll be posting some public information as to how to get into the Blogger’s Lounge within the next day or two for anyone who might be interested in joining us.
Seth Godin:
Seth is one of those guys that exudes motivation. Some people don’t like his blog because he has comments off, but I don’t read it so I can interact with Seth, I read it because it helps me.
Networking:
The final spot on the list would be my networking sites, like Twitter, Skype, LinkedIn etc.. Usually if I need a break I network.
Discussion:
How about you? Where do find motivation online?

Yeah I also visit Seth Godin’s blog. But why do people not like the fact that he has comments off?
His blog is very popular. His recent post about ‘Goodbye to the office’ had 2413 re tweets and 1954 Facebook Likes. But obviously no comments since comments are turned off.
But then again, why has he comments turned off and why do people not like this fact? Any ideas? (this was just bothering me, so I asked lol).

I am not sure other than the fact that he would have to moderate so many comments. I don’t see anything wrong with it myself though

I also visit Nicholas Cardot’s site regularly. And I also agree with you on what you said about him.
As for Seth Godin’s blog site, maybe he just does not have the luxury of time to reply to comments, which can probably be better than ignoring them.
Well I also have to commend you for having your blogs as my motivations too. Keep up the good work!

I’m part of a paid membership program (A-List Blogging Club) and the motivation I get from the forum there is incredible. There are bloggers of all levels of expertise/popularity, and we all help each other out, share the ups and downs, challenge each other, etc.
The other place I go to get motivated is straight to the comment section of my own blog. I’ve gotten to know many of the ‘regulars’ and it feels like hanging out with old friends to shoot the breeze there.

I get much motivation from comment sections too, most of my post ideas come from comments both on my blogs and others too.

Jean, if you’re enjoying your paid membership club, then you should definitely check out our blogger’s lounge. It’s free and all you have to do is jump on Skype and say hello once in a while. It’s one of the funnest places to hang out and learn. I’m actually going to be publishing a public invitation into the lounge tomorrow.

Sounds like my kind of place. I’ll look forward the post tomorrow and will definitely stop in to the lounge.

Keith, I really appreciate your mention of my personal site and of the Blogger’s lounge. I hope that a lot more people decide to jump in and join us. Great video.
I’m completely with you about Seth Godin’s blog. His work his excellent and I really enjoy reading it.

Thanks Keith,
There are a number of blogs I read to keep up to date with what is happening – Nick’s obviously, Glen at Viper Chill, Pat at Smart Passive Income and a few more.
However I find I get my motivation from two main areas. The first is interacting with others within my circles in marketing I have some close friends within the business, John Thornhill, Dave Nicholson, Lee Mcintyre to name a few and we often meet for a beer or two and share our thoughts.
The second is fitness and bike riding, I find I get a lot of ideas, motivation and inspiration when I’m at my most relaxed. I guess we all have our own ways motivating ourselves.
Great Post Keith

Forgive how this may sound, but I think i get the most motivation from my own blog, or rather the feedback therein.
KNOWING I’ve really helped someone via their own mouth, you just can’t beat that for motivation to continue.
I subscribe to some mentioned here, i will check out the rest on your recommendation.

I’m personally getting more into networking and I don’t do it as much as I should. I also like to get to know new people and see what they’re about and offer any advice I can if I can.
I’m currently a free member of blogger beats myself and am really enjoying it. For the price they’re asking it’s definitely worth it. It helps motivate me a lot.

I don’t have a site I go to on a regular basis for motivation. Maybe I should focus on selecting a few blogs that I regularly visit for this reason.
Thanks for the list to get me started.
