The Growing Power and Force of Social SEO

With Google’s recent launch of social search built into their search results, they confirmed what many search engine optimization specialists had already believed to be true.  One of the growing factors that search engines uses to weigh the value of any given page on the Internet is the organic social links that point to it. This SEO factor is known as social SEO.

The programmers behind this search engine are incredibly smart and every day the algorithm that’s used to populate its search results is evolving to reflect this.  They want to show their users the highest quality and most relevant information possible and it’s rapidly improving the way that it does this.

Make a Bigger Splash in the Social Community

Google knows that if a page is able to quickly grab the attention of its surrounding social community then it’s probably a quality page. And they are right in thinking this way. Those pages that go viral across social media platforms do so because people are interested in them. This is exactly the type of material that they’re looking for. Search engines view those inbound links from social media like blogs and twitter as votes in favor of your page.

Even though twitter and other social media often use the nofollow tag which is designed to tell Google and other search engines not to notice that link as a vote, many of these links are still finding their way into our Google Webmaster Tools account as inbound links. This is yet another indication that search engines care about the inbound links that are being created across social networks.

With this in mind, you should be able to see how it is more important than ever to create high quality content that your visitors are genuinely interested and how important it is to develop and expand your social circle. You should be actively working to expand your network every day for the sake of your social SEO.

Writing For Real People vs. Writing For Search Engines

Often people debate the idea of which is more important, writing for search engines or writing for real people. But the answer has now become simplified. Create content that inspires your visitors in such a way so that they feel compelled to share it in their network. Writing for real people in this way is effectively writing for the search engines.

I’ve heard people complain about the concept that Google favors certain established websites and often discounts the quality of smaller, less-known sites. But this is a good thing. Google knows that those sites who are able to create a buzz in the community without search engine traffic are exactly the type of results that they should be delivering to their users.

The better attitude is not to get upset that the more established sites find favor in the eyes of Google, but to determine to learn and improve our own social SEO. Find a way to create a buzz around your site. Rally your community. Get people excited and provide dynamite content that they won’t find anywhere else. This will drive you to the top.

Group Reflection

I hope that you’re not simply praying that Google will miraculously start sending free traffic to your website. If that is your attitude then you are going to be sadly disappointed. If you want search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing to take notice of your website then you need to start making a bigger splash in the broader social community.

What are you doing at your website to improve the quality of the content you deliver? What are you doing right now to create a buzz in your community? Are you doing what it takes to get noticed or are simply praying for a miracle?

Every links or mentions around the world wide web really counts. So it doesn’t matter if its nofollow or dofollow, what matter most is the buzz it will create and the traffic that link will make.

In terms of Google algo, yes, nowadays, Social SEO is being counted by them. Meaning social media mentions, links and traffic are being analyzed and computed for a certain site.

Don’t mistake what I’m saying in this post. Nofollow is still an effective means to stop Google from weighing a link as much but Google reserves the right to look at it anyways if it notices enough links popping up.

I agree with you on this point. there is still some weightage given to a dofollow link. Otherwise why should we nofollow affiliate links. Right?

I definitely think that even if you are writing to suit specific keywords you still need to be writing with people as your first priority.

It always pays to give out as good of content as possible. What I try and do is speak on a level that my visitors and the people that read my posts, are familiar with. It also helps to put more thought and emphasis into your posts ahead of time.

Sometimes guilty of that but I’ve found that typically when I have a really good, clear idea of what I want to write about, creativity kicks in stronger and just a little bit later, there’s some good stuff to get published! Or so I think ;-)

Amazing concept there Nick. As an SEO guy, I have (of course) been watching these trends in Google SERPS and have found much of the information that you have elected to include to be true.

Google makes money when they deliver relevant search results. They HAVE to, otherwise they suffer financially.

It is really genius, because Google has learned that what human beings find worthwhile enough to share, they should share as well. I just can’t figure out why it took so long to get that straight – seems obvious to me.

Also, on a more general note, Google doesn’t have to follow it’s own rules, let alone yours. (Yours referring to those reading this comment. Yes, I mean you.) Google has become as good as it is by studying and compensating for the trends of people. A few years ago, Google popularized NOFOLLOW, and everybody ate it up, trying to sculpt their PR. Just recently, they changed the way the look at NOFOLLOW links.

Google is going to continue to mix it up, even if it requires them to bend and or break some of their own rules.

Wow, that was really a great insight from the masterofseo. Personally, I do think the same thing before. And its happening. Now google check and see what websites or blogs are being shared commonly by most of the internet users. In this case, they can easily determine the most wanted site people or the audience wanted to see, and they can track it to, of course, social media.

I have seen that the important thing to make a post or article viral is to make it a bit off beat. For eg, if you post the same old concepts of how to get, then you can’t expect a large audience to like it.

A better method is to start an offbeat post which has something unique to offer.

I posted an article on the 11 different types of bloggers (http://www.bloggodown.com/2010/02/the-11-types-of-bloggers.html) and got a really good response on twitter.

It’s about offering something unique and interesting. And i think it helps in social SEO

I believe the landscape has change again and we had all better step up our came.

I’d try the Google buzz today.
I only hope twitter and Facebook can survive this.

Google hates Microsoft but isn’t ironic they are following MS’s 90s strategy of dominating all?

Precisely, that’s the real point. It will take time for google and their engineers to automatically or algorithmically calculate what site readers want. I really do believe that sometime soon, google will also check site stats such as readership, bounce rate, number of visitors or a certain page in terms of ranking.
