Social Bookmarking Module for Joomla
News and Updates at Site Sketch 101Extension Name: Super Social Bookmarking Module
Joomla Compatibility: 1.5+
Joomla Extension Type: Module
The super social bookmarking module is an addon that I created for the Joomla content management system. It features a bright series of glossy web 2.0 buttons that users can click to add your articles and pages to twelve of the internet’s most popular social bookmarking/networking websites. Through the Joomla backend parameters you can select which images you want displayed and which ones you want hidden.
Included is a screen-shot of the module!

File Attachment:
File Name: mod_socialbookmarking.zip
File Size: 84408

The icons look really large on my pages. Overly big. I like the module and still want to use it.
Is it just a case of editing the sizes of the images to make them smaller? Are images installed to the media folders? or in the module dir itself?
Nicholas Z. Cardot said:
Web Site Design Kent » The images are stored in the module folder itself. You can reduce their size their or you can modify the css file of your website by changing the width or height attribute of the bookmarkimage class.
Web Site Design Kent said:
Nicholas,
Thank you for your input. I will have a look at both options. Im locating the bookmarks in another module so probably the reduce image will work best.
You have a great blog here and obviously have your finger on the pulse of all things Inter-web!!

Web Site Design Kent » Thanks a bunch. I’ve been using Joomla for about a year and now I’m really getting into WordPress. I get more joy out of helping others figure it out than I do figuring stuff out myself. I remember how hard it was when I was just starting out and I was trying to learn everything. I want to make that process as easy as possible for everyone else.

Hello Nicholas, very nice work, your module is really good, but let me ask you about one missing thing: How can I set my CSS atribute into this? Is it hard to add the extra field to mod my CSS like other joomla regular modules? Can you give some light here please?
Another tip for your next version, a extra field to type a intro text inside the module, somethig like “Add this page to your favorite Social Bookmarking site”!
Thank you very much!
Luciano

Hi Nicholas, great module except for the size of the icons. You’ve mentioned editing the css. I’m not very good with PHP or working on the CSS. Can you give me detailed instructions on how to modify the size of these icons without affecting other icons on my website?
Thank you,
Nicholas Z. Cardot said:
Russ –> Tell me what size would be good for you and I’ll try to update it with different size options. Would that work?
Russ said:
Hi Nicholas, thanks so much, 25×25 pixels would be great!
Nicholas Z. Cardot said:
Russ –> I’ll try to get some work done on it this weekend. I have Sunday and Monday off work so I should have some time to adjust it on one of those two days. I’ll need some of your feedback once I get it up so that I can know if it works better for you.
Luciano said:
I already did a 20×20 version.
Some icons was redraw to best fit. You can download it (just the images) here: http://www.f4com.com.br/icons20x20.rar
You will need to extract and rename this files before overwrite original ones using your FTP client.
Hope it helps.
Russ said:
Hi Nicholas, I wasn’t able to download that file (says not available). But I see now what you were saying to do, that is, modify the images from the backend in the root/modules/mod_socialbookmarking/images/ folder. Once I saw that, I downloaded them, resized them in Fireworks, and reuploaded them. So they are perfect for what I need. Thanks for the help and great module!
Nicholas Z. Cardot said:
Russ –> You’re welcome, but I will probably create a new version with sizing options so that it can be more convenient for others to use.
james said:
Can we get twitter and myspace?
thanks
Nicholas Z. Cardot said:
james –> I only added the icons that were in the icon set. I’m sorry.
Nick said:
Thanks for the MOD.
I have an answer for anyone that wanted the module class section added so you can use the template CSS.
What i had to do is access the mod_socialbookamrking.xml file and add this line just before the
That will allow you to then add any module class suffix I.E -blank to your module position.
Hope that makes sense.
Nick
Nicholas Z. Cardot said:
Nick –> Sorry that it won’t let you post code. If you email it to me I can put it right into the module and together we can make it better. Here’s my email: Nick @ Sitesketch101 (dot) com.

ah wont let me post code, but you can email me if you want the answer.

Regarding not having icons for Twitter and MySpace. I googled and found icons that looked like they matched your set.
I am going to incorporate them into your mod but I thought you might want to add them for others.
Twitter:

MySpace:

Thanks, and great mod.
Nicholas Z. Cardot said:
Jason –> Thank you. I’ll look into that and get them added in. Thanks everyone for sending me code and icons that I can add to the module. I appreciate it and I certainly want to make it as effective as possible.

Hi Nicholas, what a great little mod. so simple – love it.
Im in the process of adding in my own logos and additional php script to take me to twitter / myspace etc. i was wondering if you knew a way to make the image change on a mouse hover?? i think this needs to be done via the php but i can’t work it out. any help would be great!
thanks….
Nicholas Z. Cardot said:
Matthew Elsom –> To make them change on mouseover could be done with CSS. I actually had it doing partial transparencies before and Internet Explorer couldn’t render it right so I removed it.

Nicholas Cardot said:
Steve Olive –> Do you have a twitter icon that matches that icon set?
Jack Barakitis said:
Thank you Nicholas for the Joomla module, have you had a chance to update it with Twitter and Myspace?
I have downloaded the icons, but could use the CSS to do this.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
