Sketch Bookmarks WordPress Plugin
I’m very pleased to announce the immediate release of my very first WordPress plugin.
This plugin contains amazing looking, sketched icons for only the top social bookmarking sites.
Quit confusing your readers with dozens of bookmarking options and start to really go after those bookmarking sites that are actually getting used with these amazing looking sketch icons.
This plugin will duplicate the social icons that you see at the bottom of every article on Site Sketch 101. I’ve also provided you with the options to choose which of the icons you wish to display and which of them you would prefer to hide.

Plugin Features
- Design: This plugin features 6 Amazing looking sketched social icons that will set you apart from the crowd. You will draw people into bookmarking with this attractive display.
- Options: We provide the options to choose which buttons to display. You can customize this plugin to represent the most important bookmarking sites or to accommodate smaller post widths.
- W3C Compliant: Many SEO experts believe that compliance is one of the many factors that Google, Yahoo and others look at when weighing the importance of websites.
Special Thanks
I also want to send out a special thanks and give some recognition to Phillip Copley. He helped me develop the administrator options. Without him this plugin wouldn’t be a reality in the form that it is.
Download
You can check out and download the Sketch Bookmarks listing in the WordPress Plugins directory.

Nice – I was wondering if you were ever going to make this available. Will we see it on the WordPress plugin directory?

Don Gilbert » I actually got it listed in the WordPress plugins directory earlier today. Your question is a good one so I amended the bottom of the article to reflect a link to that listing. Thanks.

Hi Don – I read your latest post – great – just one thing though.
You have the heading: Monitor You Reputation. I think you mean Monitor Your Reputation.
Thanks Nicholas for this plugin – I am downloading it and will put it on a couple of my sites.
I love this blog, just found it last week and I am getting your weekly updates.
Keep up the great work guys!

Nice work Nicholas. You might want to take a look at the screen shots on your WP listing. The screen shots only show the link and not the actual image. You might want to get that fixed to encourage more downloads of your plugin.

Wow, your maiden plugin (I wish it had the email link too)! I guess someday you will also release a theme. All the best.
Nicholas Cardot said:
Vikas Gupta » I definitely hope to release a theme someday. And when I do, it’s going to be great!

Great work, Nick! Just wondering but can you charge people to download plugins?

Nicholas Cardot said:
Tony » You can on your own site but you can only put free plugins in the WordPress plugins directory. I don’t plan on charging for this one.

Congratulations, Nick.
I will talk with my webmaster today and whether we should make the switch to your one. Cheers!

Hi Nick,
You have done a great job friend. I have downloaded and using in one of my blogs. Its really nice.
But for me twitter icon coming in the next line. what should i do to make all six icons in one line?
And one more suggestion friend. You get give us many options like reddit and friendfeed. Users may choose from that and keep any six icons from this.
Try to implement this feature friend. It will be helpful for many people..
Best Wishes For You

Deepika » If they don’t all fit just drop the least important one. Maybe take off the technorati or something. That’s probably the one that is the least used in the collection. In fact, I might end up switching the technorati icon with something like Reddit.
Deepika said:
@Nick
You can also try to add friendfeed with reddit friend..

Awesome looks, but I had to tweak it to get it working. It’s not working (version 1.1) properly if WP is installed on separate dir. Posted here about it: http://wordpress.org/tags/sketch-bookmarks

Danny Brown said:
Hey there fella,
Nice looking set of icons – just switched from Sexy Bookmarks on my blog to display yours instead.
Only suggestion I”d offer is to somehow integrate URL shortening services like bit.ly for the Twitter sharing option? If it’s a long blog post, it could be difficult for someone to tweet via their account?
Cheers,
Danny.

Danny Brown » That’s a great idea. I don’t have a clue how to do that but I’m trying to learn as much about these things as possible so I’m definitely going to look into what it would take to make URL shortening integration a reality.
Danny Brown said:
Cool, cheers fella, and loving the plugin so far
Nicholas Cardot said:
Danny Brown » Thanks. I appreciate it.
David Wells said:
I love the design and layout of this plugin! Blows sexy bookmarks plugin out of the water.
I would agree with Danny and think it would be awesome if the plugin shortened links. The twitter links and my url structures don’t get along. =)
Keep up the great work!

Nick,
I’ve always loved the look of your site. The sketched look is very stylish without being annoying. It was only a matter of time before this had to come out.
I haven’t looked yet, but how easy it is to change out the icons for those who like the format, but the sketched look doesn’t fit their site?
I’m loving the changes you’ve made to your site. I can’t wait to see more.

Just a suggestion: You could add classes to all of the HTML elements generated, to make styling easier with CSS.

Hey Nicholas glad to see that you have your own plugin now! I’m sure you would get maximum exposure from the WordPress plugin page.
No doubt, the bookmark button looks great but I’m using SexyBookmark plugin for quite some times, not going to switch it yet but I’ll install it for other of my blogs.
Cheers,
Lee
Nicholas Cardot said:
Lee Ka Hoong » They do have a very nice plugin there. What I like about this plugin is that it really focuses in on just a few of the popular ones. If you’re using that make sure that you don’t have like 40 of the bookmarks active. Be sure to only activate a few of them so people can actually find the popular bookmarking site that they use and get the job done. I think a few popular ones are a lot more effective than 40 that never get used.
Oz Cool said:
Is it possible to put a radio button ‘open in new window’ in admin area? Thank you.
Nicholas Cardot said:
Oz Cool » I don’t use ‘new window’ links because the target=”_blank” attribute is not XHTML 1.1 Strict compliant and I want people to be able to keep their sites in valid in the coding. That’s why I quit using them. Besides, I’m becoming more and more convinced that people are sick and tired of having 35 windows open because every link they click takes them into another window. It’s annoying.
Olusegun said:
Great.
I have been looking for the sketch bookmarks ever since i saw them on a theme i once used.
Thanks man
Nicholas Cardot said:
Olusegun » You’re welcome. I hope that they work out great for you.

Hi and great plugin. Love your design style btw.
I would also love to enable your plugin for “Pages” too. Maybe you plan on adding the option, but a little code and where would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Thanks for making this into a plugin. It fits perfectly with a new site I’m working on.
I’m already a subscriber and looking forward to your book!
Monica said:
LOVE the style here, but they’re coming across a little large for my site…..can we change the size on these?
Also, I am embarrassed to ask (I am not techie at all) but WHERE are the options of us to change things, drop one icon, etc.? Am I missing something? All I see is “Edit” and that takes me to….CODE? Yikes, I can’t touch that. Is there a configuration panel that I’m missing?
Also, besides an email link, and RSS/subscribe would be super cool, too.
Thanks, love the look!

After installing this plugin I believe its a great thing. However I was wondering as to why once I click on a category that the Plugin shows it self. I have it disabled from my home page but it shows up once people click on categories. I want to diable that. Click on the link for an example.
