Hey Mike,

Good solid strategies here. Really glad you suggest testing. Too many people overlook that.

I’m finding some interesting results in the way I use Facebook. Unlike Twitter, I rarely ever talk business on FB. Instead I use it as a playground for meeting people, just for the sake of hanging out. What I’m finding is I get a lot of private mail from people asking what I do. Apparently my goofing around and just having fun is attracting interest. I now have a blog I can send them to to find out more. Still testing, but I like what I’m seeing.

Interesting… I can’t imagine ever searching Facebook for information for a scholarly article or anything I needed hard facts for. Social media and search engines are completely different and I hadn’t heard this theory before. What is the rumour… I mean, how is this going to happen, worst case scenario?

Exactly, I am actually accepting guest posts on FB blog, so I managed to create some big sidebar buttons to highlight important services on the blog and focus on them, it’s like telling visitors and readers where exactly they should go, and I can see it’s working like a charm!

Getting my foothold in the social scene is on the top of my to do list for this year, so I have nothing to add yet on that front.

I do have a question for ya though…

I see a LOT of debates regarding social media vs. search engines, social media will kill search engines, etc., and so forth.

Your thoughts?

Totally agree with you that you can’t push it. You’ll see people get frustrated then try and push it, only to see them lose followers and much needed trust.

Yeah, that’s one of the downsides of social media traffic. However, like what you’re doing is a great way to bring that bounce rate down.

Yes, I agree with you in that a lot of it comes straight back to the basics. In fact, without the basics, you’re pretty much screwed.

And yes, we should all work on ways to think more creatively.

As far as build amazing content and they will “find us”, no way. You can post content on your blog everyday but if you’re not consistently working on ways to build traffic for people to SEE those posts, no one will see it or find it, period.

You may get a few visitors here and there but no where near as much as compared to doing traffic generation and building relationships with those you come in contact, something you can do very well through social media with the right effort.

That’s great Hesham! One thing to add about having your site optimized “socially”, is again, make sure things are in clear view for people to see and there’s a clear call to action.

It’s like if you want people to contact you about your writing services (just an example) and the link is at the very bottom of your page in the footer. Doesn’t make much sense, does it?
