5 Powerful Ways to Get Traffic to Your Blog
Our host today is Onibalusi Bamidele. If you're interested in getting in front of the readers of Site Sketch 101, check out our guest posting invitation here.
Having traffic to a blog is one of the major challenges most bloggers face. The quality of traffic a blogger gets will determine so many things about him. Below is a list of 5 rock solid methods of getting traffic to your blog.
1. Networking
Networking both inside and outside your niche is agreat way to get traffic to your blog. There are different ways to network both inside and outside your niche, it can either be through blog commenting, guest posting, social networking sites and forum posting. When networking to build traffic to your blog, it is very important to take into consideration the other party, everybody has to benefit.
Let there be a reason why other people you network with must visit your blog. Your form of networking might be through forum posting, but it is very difficult to achieve success through forums if you are not active on the forum.
2. Article Marketing
Article marketing is very effective depending on how it is been used. I have seen articles with less than 100 views and those with tens of thousands of views after a year of writing them on ezinearticles.
It is very important to do effective keyword research before writing your articles, it is also very important to try to get a few backlinks to your articles because this will make it easy for you to rank on search engines. Most of the popular article sites and directories are trusted by search engines which make it very easy for them to rank on the search engines; you only need to get a few quality backlinks to your articles if you are targeting competitive keywords.
It is also important to have an anchor text backlinks to your blog because this will help you rank higher on the search engines.
3. Guest Posting
Guest posting is another method of getting traffic to your blog, guest posting is far better than article marketing because article sites don’t have an established reader base while a blog has. Guest posting on other blogs will help you get loyal readers and direct traffic to your blog, guest posting will also help you build your brand because your name will be appearing everywhere.
It is very important to only write quality articles for blogs on which you are going to guest post, because this makes sure the blog owner and you will be benefiting. The blog owner will be benefiting because you helped him to write a quality article and also helped to free some of his time while providing value for his readers at the same time. You will be benefiting because you will get more popularity and traffic.
4. Blog Commenting
If you want to know the power of blog commenting, just dedicate a week to make a minimum of over 1000 comments on other relevant blogs in your niche, both small and great. The result you will get at the end of one week will be so great.
Blog commenting is an effective way of putting yourself out there for people to see, it helps you build your brand while getting additional traffic. In order to get the best result from blog commenting, you have to write well thought out comments that are in line with the content of the blog on which you are commenting.
You shouldn’t just expect to get results with comments such as “great post!” or the likes. Another advantage of blog commenting is that the owners of the blogs you comment on are most likely going to come back to do the same which means increase in comments.
5. Social Bookmarking
Social bookmarking and networking sites are a good way of getting traffic to your blog. Making effective use of social bookmarking and networking sites such as Digg, stumbleupon, reddit and twitter can help you get results. Twitter and stumbleupon are one of the highest sources of traffic to my blog.
The secret to social success is thinking about others and not just yourself. If you want your stories to be voted for on social bookmarking and networking sites, just begin to vote for other quality article while adding others as friend, this will help you achieve great results.
Social bookmarking sites are not where you will just go only when you want to submit your article but should be frequented, the majority of your social bookmarking efforts should be to the benefits of others, and they will return the favor later. Social bookmarking and networking is very effective if only you could use it effectively.
The above are five great methods of getting traffic to your blog; you don’t need to be looking for more ways without considering the ones you have. Use all the methods listed above effectively and begin to increase the traffic to your blog.

Hi Steve,
I mean it, there is no typo.
There was a time I went on a 7 days challenge. I decided to write 21 guests posts in 7 days (while maintaining my blog). I ended up writing 16 and it is still bringing in great results.
Great tasks often bring great results, if it were to be the usual then you might get the usual.
All in all, just try your best.

Steve Youngs said:
You didn’t put much thought into that “1000 comments in a week”, obviously.
First of all you have to find 1000 worthy articles to which you could leave a comment on. Then you have to read each and every article. Then think of something to leave as a comment, then write the comment.
Let be real generous here and say for argument’s sake that you can find 1000 articles worthy of a comment in a single week (I’d even ague that this wouldn’t be trivial). And the total time for each article (finding, reading, thinking, writing comment) takes you 10 minutes.
Under those circumstances could you do 1000 comments in a single week? Sure! As long as you don’t do ANYTHING ELSE for that week. And when I say don’t do anything else, I mean eat, sleep, go to the toilet… ANYTHING. One comment per 10 minutes will take you 168 hours to hit the magic 1000. There are only 168 hours in a week.
For the pedantic mathematicians reading this, you’re right, my figures aren’t completely accurate… You can knock off after 166 hours and 40 minutes.
Yes, most (all?) bloggers should strive to leave more comments than what they are leaving currently. I’m in total agreement over that. But the number needs to be realistic. 1000 is not realistic.
BTW, this comment took me longer than 10 minutes to write, so I’m behind the 8-ball already.
Kind regards,
Steve

Hi Steve,
I REALLY mean 1000 comments in one week.
I thought it out well before writing this post.
The point is, 1000 comments a week is a challenge, it is not what can just be done as it is said, it takes time and dedication, it is a real challenge and that is why it brings results. It is out of the box.
This is how I do mine, I will look for blogs which has lots of comments, Like SiteSketch101, I will visit every commenter latest post (comluv), I will skim the post and make my comments.
If you set a goal to make 100 comments in a week, you might not be dedicated to it and eventually not committed to it. If your goal is 1000 comments a week, if you are committed to it, even if it is 300 comments you made, it is far more than 100 and will still bring great results.
Thanks a lot for the nice comment,

By skimming articles, do you read more then the title?
My Latest Blog Post: Web Income Experiments DotCom Wins Hands-Down!
Onibalusi Bamidele said:
Hi Dennis,
I mean, you will read the title, get a few bullet points and give your comments.
I have different types of blogs I comment on, One is the one I trust (e.g. SiteSketch101) and another one I go just for comments. I read all posts on trusted blogs because it will add to me, I only skim that of blogs I am just commenting on and that is only when I go on a commenting spree.
You will notice I make a lot of comments each week because about 10 of my guest posts get published each week and I have to reply to all comments, think about this: I make over 10 guest posts a week, I reply all comments, I post on my blog a minimum of 3 times a week, I also try to reply all comments on my blog.
There is nothing impossible, the first point: How do you know it is impossible when you have not attempted it?
We are all humans and we are brought up to believe like that, take all humanity aside, keep trying it. You might not get it at first start, but with time, you will get it.
Thanks a lot for the nice comment,
-Onibalusi
BTW: I write about 3 high quality posts on average a day, most are over 800 words. To others, this is impossible. It was difficult when I started but now, it is easy, getting posts ideas is no problem

1000 without spamming wildly; doubtful.
100, not so difficult. I do a minimum of 10-20 per day, everyday.

I have to agree with Dennis and Steve its doubtful but possible. For me its impossible. I try and comment on 10 – 20 a day.
As for a 1000 a week, I did the math, its 142.85 comments per day = 999.95 (round to 100) comments a week. That is a lot of blogs you have to find, read, think about, and comment on. Then these blogs need to produce good content worth commenting on, they have to post daily, and you have to do good non spammy comments. If they are spammy then whats the point?
I originally commented on between 25 and 50 comments a day on unique niche specific sites and it took a good part of my day. (about 3 hours)
Rhys said:
I agree. 1000 comments may be a bit tricky. The only thing I’d recommend is pay somebody to find blog posts for you to write comments on.
But yeah for a great comment (which I am not saying this is), takes me 5 minutes to a minute to write. That means 3 days solid grafting (not including sleeping, or doing a day job).
I comment probably about 5 times a day. Takes me half an hour in total, but more beneficial in the long run than 1000 comments in bulk.

Getting more traffic is the core of the blogger’s lifecycle and you make a good roundup of all the strategies one can use for this. One point though:
Quality posts should not only be for guest posting, I believe that one should maintain high quality posts all the time. I mean, if one writes a quality guest post the traffic generated is ok but the visitor will also be expecting to get the same quality on the author’s actual blog. There should not be any difference so that the visitor doesn’t leave out of disappointment.

WOW! I am amazed by the 1000 comment in one week number. That is such a huge number which breaks down to 143 comments per day. If it simply takes 5 minutes to type in a worthy comment (other than nice post), then at 12 comments per hour, you are talking about 12 hours worth of sitting in front of a computer typing, finding relevant blogs and forums, etc without even getting up to take a leak. Ouch.

I just love guest posting and I wish I could find guests to publish on my own site, but that’s rather difficult. I noted all your suggestions, but I would like to ask you more about the post commenting. Are you allowed to make a great number of comments on a short time, without being targeted as spammy by the search engines? I am new into this and I began commenting, but I use this with precautions, and this is the last thing I wish, to completely disappear from the search engines’ index. Thanks a lot!

Hi Terry,
Let me give you one secret others might disagree with. The key to achieve even more blogging success is to forget about search engines.
As long as you are consistent, there will be no penalty.
To me, comments is not for link building, it is for building relationships, getting my name out there, and getting more traffic to my blog. Why care about search engines?
Thanks a lot for the nice comment,
-Onibalusi
Dennis Edell | Direct Sales Marketing said:
Terry,
Onibalusi is 100% correct with the Relationship over link building guidelines; absolutely.
As a veracious commenter myself, here’s some prime advice – - be more worried about the blog admin targeting you as spammy then the search engines. You can kill two birds with one stone though…
Two birds = Blogger/Search Engines
One stone = A high value comment.
Trust me on this, comment to your hearts desire, make sure they are all quality comments, and no one will get upset.
Never forget, comments = content. They both love that, right?
